Green light for Cahergal NS

News that construction will begin on new primary schools in Cahergal, Tuam and Monivea was welcomed this week by Galway East TD Paul Connaughton.

The School Building Programme 2016 – 2021 was announced on Tuesday morning last and schools in the Tuam area scheduled for construction work include Cahergal NS, Gaelscoil Iarfhlatha, Tuam and Monivea NS.

‘I am particularly delighted that work is to begin on Cahergal NS, Tuam in 2016 as this school has needed upgraded facilities for many years and it is only fair that the efforts of school authorities, staff and parents in Cahergal is recognised and a new school delivered for the area. Cahergal NS, which was built in 1952, was on the school building list for 16 years and I am delighted that finally the new build is getting the green light.

‘Staff, parents and members of the Board of Management at Gaelscoil Iarflhatha in Tuam have been hugely frustrated by delays in legal conveyancing in relation to the site for the school and I am pleased that this project is to go ahead in 2016, there have been too many false dawns for this Gaelscoil in recent years. A new school is also planned for St Oliver’s Special School in Tuam, with work due to begin in 2017

‘Construction is also to begin on new primary schools in Monivea and Carrabane, which is very welcome. For many years, staff and pupils at Scoil an Chroi Naofa in Ballinasloe have been operating on a split campus and I am also delighted that a new school is to be constructed on a single campus.’
