The signing of the contract for a new wastewater treatment plant in Kinvara and news that €5.1 million is to be spent on this plant and the town’s sewer network has been welcomed by Galway East TD Paul Connaughton.

‘The signing of the contract for the construction of a new wastewater treatment plant in Kinvara is an important day for the region and will end the discharging of raw sewage into Kinvara Bay,’ said Deputy Connaughton.

‘The people of Kinvara and the many tourists who visit the region will greatly benefit from enhanced wastewater treatment facilities and news that a separate contract to upgrade the town’s sewer network will be signed in coming weeks is also most welcome.

‘Work should start on site in early 2016 and it is anticipated that the new treatment plant and marine outfall pipe as well as the work to upgrade the sewer network will be completed in early 2017.

‘Bathing in the area of Kinvara Bay will be made much safer by this work and will make the area more attractive to tourists. I also welcome the fact that the design of the new wastewater plant will allow for future expansion of the town. ‘

‘I would also urge Irish Water to look favourably on proposals to extend the sewerage scheme to cover a number of housing developments in Kinvara as this would ensure that the town has an integrated and fully operational wastewater system.’
