Early completion of by-pass needed

Galway East TD Paul Connaughton is pressing for the earliest possible completion date for the M17/18 Gort to Tuam motorway and in particular for the completion of the Tuam by-pass.
‘In recent weeks, as schools re-opened, we have seen major traffic congestion in the centre of Tuam. Much of this is exacerbated by the lack of a by-pass for the town, as motorists travelling from Mayo and Sligo to Shannon and Limerick struggle to get through the town.
‘I firmly believe that if all parties work in close co-operation in coming months, including the NRA and the various contractors involved in the construction consortium, great progress can be achieved on this project and the road can be completed ahead of schedule. It is particularly important that if work is progressing at a significant pace that the Tuam by-pass is completed as otherwise it would increase the traffic problems in the town.
‘I have written to Minister Paschal Donohue and NRA CEO Michael Nolan pressing for the motorway to be completed as soon as possible and in particular, the Tuam town by-pass. I will continue to push this project in coming weeks and months as it is a crucial piece of infrastructure for the north Galway area.’
