Too many false dawns for Cahergal NS

The need for a new school building for Cahergal NS was highlighted this week by Galway East TD Paul Connaughton, who said that the school has been on the school building programme list for 16 years now and pupils, parents and school staff have had far too many false dawns in relation to the school.
‘On Friday last, I met with school authorities in relation to the need for a new school for Cahergal NS. It is evident that parts of the school, which was built in 1952, are in poor condition and this must be addressed as a matter of urgency. The fact that the new school build has been on the school building programme since 1999 is completely unacceptable and I will be meeting with Taoiseach Enda Kenny and Education Minister Jan O’Sullivan in the coming week to push for a new school for Cahergal.
‘There have been too many false dawns for parents and staff in relation to this issue and an entire generation of pupils have passed through the doors of Cahergal NS since it was first put on the school building list. I will be impressing upon the Taoiseach and Minister for Education the need for an early resolution to this long-standing problem at Cahergal NS.’
