Harris to visit south Galway

Galway East TD Paul Connaughton has welcomed the fact that Minister Simon Harris is to visit Kiltiernan in south Galway at his invitation early next month to hear the concerns of local people regarding the impact that the construction of the M18 motorway will have on the flood-prone region.

‘I invited Minister Harris to come to south Galway to hear the concerns regarding Kiltiernan NS and the construction of the new motorway and he has confirmed that he will visit the area in early August.

‘The Kiltiernan area is very prone to flooding and there are concerns that the construction of the new motorway will lead to more extensive flooding. Local people want to make sure their concerns are taken into account in terms of drainage plans for the area.

‘This area has been bedevilled by flooding for decades and local people must have an opportunity to voice their concerns and have those concerns listened to and I am delighted that Minister Harris has accepted my invitation to visit the region and I look forward to the meeting in Kiltiernan in early August.’
