N84 landowners ‘grossly let down’

Landowners along the route of the N84 realignment project have been grossly let down by the NRA, according to East Galway TD Paul Connaughton, who has raised the issue in recent weeks with Ministers Paschal Donohue and Michael Ring.
’Forty landowners in the Headford area have not received payment committed to years ago in relation to the N84 realignment project. It is completely unacceptable that the NRA and the Department of Transport would have allowed this project to get as far as it has without ensuring that landowners have been paid.
‘Landowners at all times have shown goodwill to this project as it is a hugely important project for the Headford area. However, they deserve to be compensated for the loss of property and land and it is incredible that they have been treated in this way.
‘I have brought this to the attention of Minister Paschal Donohue and Minister Michael Ring. I understand that Minister Ring earlier this month announced a deal in relation to goodwill payments for land owners along the route of the N5 from Castlebar to Turlough and I believe that landowners in the Headford area should also benefit from the increased level of goodwill payment.
‘After meeting with the landowners in Headford, I understand that they have been extremely patient in relation to this matter, but they have been grossly let down to date. I will continue to press both Ministers in relation to this matter so that it can be resolved as quickly as possible.’
