Environmental consultation on Meelick Weir in final stages

A Waterways Ireland project to upgrade Meelick Weir in Eyrecourt is currently in the final stages of environmental consultation, according to Paul Connaughton TD.
‘I recently received confirmation from Ms. Dawn Livingstone, Chief Executive of Waterways Ireland that the project is now in the final stages of environmental consultation. Once the consultation is complete, planning approval will be sought for the project. According to the Chief Executive, work is scheduled to commence on site in June 2016.
‘This is an important piece of tourism infrastructure in east Galway and I will continue to urge Waterways Ireland to have this project completed as soon as possible. I understand that environmental considerations and consultations are an important part of such a project but would urge Waterways Ireland to ensure a speedy conclusion to the project once the environmental consultation period is concluded.’
