Additional occupational therapist posts welcome

East Galway TD Paul Connaughton has welcomed the recruitment of an Occupational Therapist in Galway.
‘I welcome the fact that HSE West has recruited a new occupational therapist, who is to be in position by this week. Another occupational therapist is due to return from maternity leave within three months and 0.3 percent of a position is currently under recruitment.
‘At the moment there are 435 children accessing services in county Galway, in two city centre and three county locations. In 2009 there were 9.5 whole time equivalent occupational therapists and because of the moratorium on recruitment and the economic environment, vacancies which arose as a result of resignations, retirement and statutory leave, were not filled.
‘In January of this year, approval was granted to fill a vacancy and this is due to be filled by the end of March. By the end of June, there will be 7.52 whole time equivalent occupational therapists working in the service in County Galway. One person is on a career break and I will continue to work to ensure that the remaining 0.98 post is approved and filled as quickly as possible.
‘Children in county Galway need a full occupational therapy service and I will continue to work to ensure that a full service is provided.’
