Apple’s €850 million investment in Athenry facility welcome


East Galway TD Paul Connaughton has today welcomed news that Apple is to build am €850 million data storage facility at Derrydonnell, Athenry and has expressed the hope that local people will be employed both in the construction phase and the operational phase of the new facility.
‘This is wonderful news for East Galway and underlines the efforts that this Government is making to ensure that the economic recovery is spread throughout the country. I understand that 300 people will be employed in the construction phase of the new plant and hope that many local people find work on the project.
‘I also hope that Apple, by building long-term links with NUIG and GMIT, will be able to employ local graduates in the data storage facility. Finally, I want to thank all involved in bringing this flagship project to East Galway. It is a strong vote of confidence in the region and the skills of the local workforce and I look forward to the creation of this new €850 million facility in Derrydonnell.’
