Portumna jobs boost

News that 65 new jobs are to be created at the Green Isle pastry production plant in Portumna was welcomed today by East Galway T.D. Paul Connaughton.
‘Green Isle today announced that it is to invest €30 million in operations in Portumna and Longford over the next five years, with support from Enterprise Ireland. The investment will result in 65 new jobs in Portumna and a further 50 in Longford.
‘This announcement is a very welcome boost for the Portumna region and is proof that the Government strategy to tackle unemployment by providing real and sustainable jobs is bearing fruit outside our cities.
‘Green Isle is responsible for the production of many household grocery names such as Green Isle, Donegal Catch and Goodfella’s pizza, while the plant in Portumna produces pastry. No doubt people across the region will recognise this investment by Green Isle and reward the company with increased brand loyalty which in turn will further sustain these jobs in Ireland.
‘There are now 61,000 more people at work in the state than there were this time last year. That is a real achievement and it is paying dividends for thousands of families where a return to work has steadied household finances. I congratulate Green Isle on their investment in Portumna and will continue to work to ensure that further jobs are secured for this region in the months and years to come.’
