Funding needed for Cahergal NS

The need for funding to be provided for emergency works at Cahergal NS, Ballyglunin, was highlighted this week by East Galway TD Paul Connaughton, who said that heating issues at the school need to be addressed in the short term, while the need for a new school building at Cahergal must also be addressed.
‘I have been contacted in recent weeks by concerned parents whose children are attending Cahergal NS. There is a huge issue with heating in the school which needs to be rectified as soon as possible. I will be working with the Minister for Education to make sure that emergency monies are allocated for the school and to ensure that the heating system is brought up to standard.
‘An application for emergency funding is to be submitted by the school to the Department and I intend to support that application in every way possible and will be bringing this issue to the attention of the Minister for Education. The issue is one which needs to be addressed over the summer months, we cannot have a situation where children from Cahergal lose out on their education next winter because of inadequate heating systems.
‘In the wider context, pupils attending Cahergal NS deserve a new school building and this has been promised many times under the previous government. Considering the use of pre-fabs in the current school situation, I will be urging the Minister to sanction a new school building for Cahergal and will continue to keep the pressure on the Minister in relation to this.
