Calling social entrepreneurs

East Galway TD Paul Connaughton is this week advising social entrepreneurs in the region to apply for funding from Social Entrepreneurs Ireland.
‘Social Entrepreneurs Ireland wants to hear from people who have new ideas and new solutions for the country’s social and environmental problems. Often, community groups have identified a strategy which works in their own local community, but which could be replicated in communities across the country.
‘In the past decade, over €5 million has been invested in projects ranging from community and active citizenship, education and learning, environment and sustainability and mental and physical health. This year €420,000 will be given to nine social entrepreneurs and a further €180,000 worth of support will be made available to the applicants, helping them to grow their organisations as quickly as possible.
‘I would urge individuals and communities across East Galway to investigate if their ideas or projects satisfy the criteria for this funding. The closing date for entries to the 2014 competition is 5pm on Monday, 28th April and the winning nominees will be announced at a ceremony in November 2014.’
