Connaughton welcomes extra SNA posts

News that the number of SNAs is to increase by 390 in the coming year was welcomed this week by Paul Connaughton T.D.

‘This is most welcome news for special needs pupils and their families across East Galway. The extra posts are necessary to ensure that this Government carries through on its policy of ensuring that every child assessed as needing SNA support will receive such support.

‘The decision reflects an increase in the number of pupils at both national and secondary school who are assessed as needing such support. 170 of the posts will be made available immediately, with the remainder coming on stream next year. The new posts will be allocated by the National Council for Special Education on the basis of assessed need.’
