Connaughton welcomes funding for Portumna project

News that Minister Phil Hogan has given the go-ahead to Galway Rural Development Company to sanction €161,686 for restoration works on Portumna Workhouse was welcomed this week by East Galway TD Paul Connaughton.

‘Minister Hogan has sanctioned Galway Rural Development to approve funding of €161,686 for South East Galway Integrated Rural Development Ltd. to carry out restoration works to part of the workhouse complex in Portumna.  This work will be carried out under the Conservation and Upgrading of the Rural Heritage measure of the Rural Development Programme 2007 – 2013.

‘The total project will cost €215,581 and today’s announcement represents a very significant element of that funding. Following Minister Hogan’s announcement, the project will now go back to the Board of Galway Rural Development Company for final approval.’
