Connaughton Welcomes Capital Allocations for Health Facilities

Allocations for capital spending on health facilities in Loughrea, Ballinasloe and Galway were welcomed this week by East Galway T.D. Paul Connaughton.

‘€900,000 is to be provided in 2013 towards the cost of a Community Mental Health Development in Ballinasloe. This is significant sum towards the project which will cost a total of €2.1 million.

‘€350,000 has also been provided towards the first phase of the development of a new 100 bed community nursing unit for older people in Loughrea.  This project will cost a total of €17.85 million and the expenditure in 2013 represents an advancement in the very early stage of development of this much-needed unit. €100,000 is to be provided towards the cost of the new St. Anne’s Child and Adolescent Residential Unit in Salthill. This new residential mental health unit will cost a total of €8.15 million.

‘The approvals are a boost for these three very significant health projects, two of which relate to mental health and one to care of older people. The sum provided for the Ballinasloe facility represents a major step forward in the provision of this facility and while the development of the Loughrea facility is at a much earlier stage, it is to be hoped that this crucial development can also be advanced to ensure state-of-the-art public nursing facilities for older people in the Galway region.’
