Connaughton welcomes flood work at Gort

News that over €37,000 is to be allocated for flood mitigation work in the Gort area was welcomed today by Paul Connaughton T.D.

Welcoming the announcement, the East Galway T.D. said, ‘€22,500 is being provided to replace culverts and maintain drains at Peterswell, Gort, while €15,715 has been provided for the first phase of an Environmental Assessment at Termon, Gort. The money is being provided to Galway County Council under the Minor Flood Mitigation Works and Coastal Protection Scheme and has been approved by the Office of Public Works.

‘Continued investment in flood mitigation works is vital in the south Galway region, given the devastation that region suffered in 2009 and work is ongoing on a number of projects aimed at alleviating the threat of flooding in the region.  Minister Brian Hayes has visited the region on a number of occasions and is well aware of the need for the continuation of such works in months and years to come.
