Connaughton welcomes start of work on Ballygar Station

Work on renovating Ballygar Garda Station is to get underway this week, a fact welcomed today (Monday) by local T.D. Paul Connaughton.

“The Garda Station was damaged by fire some weeks ago and fears had been expressed by members of the local community, as well as the local Community Alert group, that the station would not re-open.

“The Office of Public Works received the necessary funding for the remedial works from the Garda Síochána last week. The District Inspector sought tenders for the work, which were to be returned on Friday last, with a view to the work starting on Monday 16th July. It is envisaged that the work will take three weeks to complete.

“I welcome the Minister’s rapid response to this issue as it is critical that the Garda Station in Ballygar becomes operational as soon as possible, as the station serves a large area of East Galway. Fears had been expressed for the future of the station following the fire, but I am glad that these fears have now been allayed and work is to get underway on this facility.”
