The need for Ballygar Garda Station to be reopened as quickly as possible was highlighted this week by Deputy Paul Connaughton.

The station was damaged by fire four weeks ago and since then, Deputy Connaughton has contacted Justice Minister Alan Shatter about the future of the station, stressing that it is vital that the station is reopened as soon as possible.  He has also contacted Minister Brian Hayes, who has responsibility for the Office of Public Works about the matter, requesting that the station be reopened as soon as the necessary works have been completed.

“At the moment, people in Ballygar and surrounding areas are very worried about the future of Ballygar Garda Station.  It was damaged by fire some weeks ago and local organisations, including the local Community Alert organisation, have expressed fears that the station may not reopen.

“I have stressed the need for the retention of Ballygar Garda Station both to the Justice Minister Alan Shatter and to the Minister with responsibility for the Office of Public Works, Brian Hayes T.D., especially in light of an increased number of break-ins in the region in recent months.

“It is imperative that the necessary remedial works are carried out immediately at Ballygar Garda Station and that the station is fully operational again as soon as possible,” concluded Deputy Connaughton.
