Connaughton welcomes childcare funding

Funding for pre-school facilities in Galway was welcomed this week by Deputy Paul Connaughton.

“The provision of quality childcare in a setting that meets all health and safety requirements, while still being accessible to parents across the county, is hugely important. Great strides have been made in recent years in the provision of community childcare facilities, where the focus is completely child-centred and the children can get quality nurturing from professional staff.

“The grants announced this week were made to both private and community services and are most welcome. A huge volume of grant applications, 2,343 nationally, were received on this occasions and funding of €350,000 has been allocated to 14 facilities in the county. Due to the unprecedented demand for the grants, only one in ten of the groups that applied were successful on this occasion.

Among those to benefit were Lisheenkyle Community Preschool in Moanbaun, Athenry (€49,000); Little Smarties Preschool and Afterschool in Aughrim (€45,951); Tiny Tots Creche, Ballinasloe (€37,884) and Tiny Tots Montessori and Afterschool in Kilconly (€42,758); Dunmore Preschool (€20,910), Kilkerrin Community playschool (€6,072) and Appletree Montessori and Playschool in Ballyglunin (€3,350).
