Gort Mart export certification process must be re-opened – Connaughton

The need for the re-opening of a pre-export certification process at Gort Mart was highlighted to Agriculture Minister Simon Coveney by Galway T.D. Paul Connaughton this week.

“It has been brought to my attention in the last week that this service is no longer being delivered at Gort Mart.  I have been in contact with the local DVO and the Minister for Agriculture and his officials seeking clarification on this matter and am pushing for this service to be re-opened as it provides a vital link for farmers and exporters and anything that can be done to help live exports of cattle has to be pushed vigorously.

“For cattle prices to remain where they are, it is vital that they can be moved with great ease across the border and to other countries,” said Deputy Connaughton.
