Connaughton meets Minster on Mountbellew school funding

If extra school funding becomes available under any economic stimulus package, then Holy Rosary College in Mountbellew must be on the top of the list for funding, that was the message that East Galway T.D. Paul Connaughton delivered to Education Minister Ruairí Quinn when they met on Tuesday last.

Deputy Connaughton met with the Minister in Dublin and stressed the need for Holy Rosary College in Mountbellew to be given top priority should further funding for school building become available.

“Holy Rosary College in Mountbellew is not included in the current school building programme, but at yesterday’s meeting, I stressed to the Minister the need to ensure that if extra funding does come via a growth or stimulus package, then the Mountbellew school must be top of the list for a new school building.

“At the Meeting, the Minister said that he believed that Holy Rosary College in Mountbellew was a priority case and that if there was an EU stimulus package, he believed that it would be one of the projects that would be ‘shovel ready’ and that he would correspond with Deputy Connaughton in the near future as to what exactly would happen.

Deputy Connaughton said that whilst he would prefer to have a far more cast iron commitment, he nevertheless felt that some progress was made.  “I will continue to take this matter up at every available opportunity, both with the School Building Section of the Department of Education and with the Minster.”
